Abstract
Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris L.) was sown on mid-August in field, and harvested on 9 November. The weight loss, trimming loss, marketability, and CO©ü and ethylene concentrations in PE film sack were measured to investigate the effect of cultivars, standing methods and packaging methods on the shelf life and quality during the MA storage. Weight loss was more reduced by PE film packaging in $quot;Josengmiho$quot; than $quot;Karackshin$quot;, and the treatment of 10 holes in under-surface of PE film sack was most effective in reduction of weight loss. However, No difference of weight loss among standing methods was shown. The tendency of changes in trimming loss and marketability was similar to that of weight loss. The concentration of CO©ü and ethylene in PE film sack was the highest in sealing treatment, however the difference between cultivars or standing methods was not appreciated. In this study, the shelf life of Chinese cabbage grown in fall was elongated until 150 days after storage.
